AviClear® is one of the most exciting breakthroughs in acne treatment in decades. But while the laser itself does the heavy lifting, what you do after each treatment can make a meaningful difference in how smooth your journey is.

In this guide, we’ll walk you through what to expect after your AviClear® sessions, what products and habits can help (or hurt), and why your aftercare routine matters—especially if you want long-term results.
WHAT TO EXPECT AFTER EACH AVICLEAR® TREATMENT
Let’s start with the basics. AviClear® doesn’t require any downtime, but that doesn’t mean your skin won’t react.
RIGHT AFTER TREATMENT
Most clients walk out of their appointment with slightly pink or warm skin that fades within the hour. You might notice a mild tingling, tightness, or dryness over the next couple of days. This is all normal and typically very manageable.
You can return to your normal activities immediately—even applying makeup if you’d like.
THE WEEKS THAT FOLLOW
Here’s where things vary person to person. After any of your AviClear® treatments—whether it’s the first, second, or third—you may experience an acne flare-up, often referred to as a purge.
This happens as the laser begins to shrink the oil glands. Your skin can temporarily push buildup to the surface, resulting in more breakouts before it gets better.
This purge can begin anywhere from a few days to a few weeks after your session. It doesn’t happen to everyone, but when it does, it’s usually temporary and a sign that the treatment is actively working.
YOUR AVICLEAR® AFTERCARE INSTRUCTIONS
1. STICK TO YOUR CURRENT SKINCARE ROUTINE
Unless your provider advises otherwise, there’s no need to stop using your existing products. AviClear® is safe to use alongside most common acne treatments, including prescription topicals and over-the-counter actives.
You don’t need to pause your routine before or after your session—just pay attention to how your skin feels. If you notice irritation, sensitivity, or dryness, reach out to us for guidance. We’re happy to help you adjust as needed.
2. AVOID SUNBURNS AND SKIP FAKE TANNER
Two of the biggest things to steer clear of around your treatment appointments are:
Sunburns
Self-tanner (in the treatment area)
Both can interfere with how the laser interacts with your skin. To get the safest and most effective treatment, avoid getting a sunburn right before your appointment and hold off on using any tanning products in the area being treated.
If you’ve recently gotten sunburned or used a self-tanner, let us know. We may need to reschedule your session to ensure the best results.
3. USE NON-COMEDOGENIC PRODUCTS
Just because your skin is on the path to producing less oil doesn’t mean it’s immune to breakouts. If you’re acne-prone, ingredients still matter.
Be sure to use non-comedogenic skincare and makeup, and be cautious of misleading marketing claims. Many products labeled “non-comedogenic” still contain pore-clogging ingredients.
If you’re not sure where to start, we can help you evaluate your current routine and suggest adjustments. Your results will go farther when your daily products are working with the laser—not against it.
4. FOLLOW YOUR TAKE-HOME INSTRUCTIONS
After your appointment, we’ll send you home with a few aftercare items. These are designed to help soothe the skin and support your results during the post-treatment phase.
They aren’t mandatory, but we’ve found them to be helpful for many of our clients—especially when it comes to minimizing purging. We’ll walk you through how to use them and answer any questions you have before you leave your appointment.
5. BE PATIENT WITH THE PROCESS
One of the most important things to remember: AviClear® is a long game.
You won’t wake up clear the day after your first session—and that’s totally normal.
Full results take time. Most clients begin seeing gradual improvement after a few months, with maximum clearance usually appearing 9 to 12 months after your last treatment. Think of each session as a step in a larger journey toward balanced, acne-resistant skin.
WHAT TO AVOID AFTER AVICLEAR®
DON’T PANIC OVER A PURGE
We understand how frustrating it is to feel like your acne is getting worse before it gets better. But purging is a common and expected part of the process for many people.
Remember: breakouts can occur after any of the three treatments and may start days—or even weeks—after your appointment.

DON’T OVERDO IT WITH NEW PRODUCTS
Now is not the time to experiment with new skincare. Starting too many products at once can cause confusion if your skin reacts—and may even make things worse.
Stick to what’s familiar and safe, unless your provider gives you new instructions.
DON’T SKIP YOUR SPF
Sun protection is crucial year-round, but especially after any laser treatment. A good broad-spectrum sunscreen helps prevent irritation, supports healing, and reduces the risk of hyperpigmentation after breakouts.
Choose a mineral-based, non-comedogenic formula, and make it part of your daily routine.
SUPPORTING YOUR RESULTS LONG-TERM
Once your three treatments are complete, your oil production will continue to decrease over time. Most clients enjoy long-lasting results that significantly reduce or even eliminate breakouts—but you’ll still want to protect your investment.
