Accure Laser® vs AviClear®: What You Should Know Before Choosing a Laser Acne Treatment

Laser treatments for acne are more advanced than ever—and if you’ve been researching long-term solutions, you’ve probably come across more than one option. AviClear® has quickly become one of the most trusted and widely used laser treatments for acne, but another device called the Accure Laser® is starting to gain attention as well.

At CLEAR Acne Treatment Centers, we specialize exclusively in AviClear®, so we often get questions about how it compares to other devices. If you’re wondering whether Accure® might be the better choice—or how it stacks up against AviClear®—this guide will walk you through the facts, the differences, and what to consider before deciding.

WHAT IS THE ACCURE LASER®?

The Accure Laser® is a 1726-nanometer laser designed to treat acne by shrinking the skin’s oil glands. The idea is similar to AviClear®: by heating and damaging overactive sebaceous glands, the treatment reduces the amount of oil your skin produces, which can prevent clogged pores and future breakouts.

In October 2024, Accure® received FDA clearance for acne, officially entering the category of energy-based acne treatments with regulatory backing. However, it’s still a very new device, with fewer than 30 units currently in use worldwide. By comparison, AviClear® is already being used in over 1,000 clinics and has built a strong track record with both clients and dermatologists.

WHAT THE TREATMENT EXPERIENCE IS LIKE

Accure®’s treatment experience is one of the biggest differences to be aware of. While it’s also considered non-invasive, it’s much more intense and time-consuming than AviClear®.

Each Accure® session takes about two hours, and most clients require a combination of topical numbing, nitrous oxide (laughing gas), and nerve block injections beforehand to make the procedure tolerable. These injections numb the face and are necessary because the laser heats the sebaceous glands to a sustained high temperature—something that would be extremely painful without anesthesia. Even with numbing, clients often describe the treatment as uncomfortable or intense.

AviClear®, on the other hand, typically takes 30 to 45 minutes per session and does not require numbing. Most people describe the sensation as a light prickle sensation or warmth that’s easy to tolerate—even for those with sensitive skin. Clients are often surprised by how comfortable it is and are able to resume their normal activities right away.

NUMBER OF SESSIONS AND TIMELINE

Accure® is typically performed in a series of four treatments, spaced several weeks apart. While some people begin to see improvements partway through the series, full results are expected to develop gradually over time.

AviClear® generally requires only three treatments, and most clients begin to notice clearer, calmer skin within a few weeks of their third session. But the biggest changes occur in the 9 to 12 months after the final treatment, as oil production decreases and the skin continues to rebalance itself naturally.

EFFECTIVENESS AND CLINICAL RESULTS

While Accure® has recently earned FDA clearance, its clinical results haven’t matched the level of consistency or long-term effectiveness seen with AviClear®. Some clients see improvement, but the data is still early and less robust, especially when it comes to treating a wide range of skin types.

AviClear®, on the other hand, has been studied in large-scale clinical trials and has shown impressive results. Over 90% of clients experience long-term acne clearance after a three-treatment series. It’s FDA-cleared for mild, moderate, and severe acne and has been used safely across all skin tones, including those with melanin-rich skin that can be more sensitive to lasers.

Because AviClear® has been in use for longer and adopted more widely, there’s also much more real-world experience to support its safety and performance.

SIDE EFFECTS AND DOWNTIME

Accure® is marketed as a non-invasive procedure, but it often comes with noticeable downtime. Clients may experience significant redness and swelling, along with dryness, flaking, or tenderness for several days after treatment. Some people may also experience blistering or hyperpigmentation, particularly in medium to deeper skin tones. Because of the heat levels used, skin recovery is often slower and more uncomfortable than with other acne treatments.

AviClear® has a much gentler recovery process. Some clients experience temporary dryness or a brief purging phase as the skin begins to regulate oil production, but most are able to return to work or social activities immediately. Side effects are minimal and typically short-lived.

COST AND ACCESSIBILITY

Accure® and AviClear® fall into a similar price range. Accure® typically costs $800 to $1,200 per session, which brings the total cost for four treatments to around $3,200 to $4,800. AviClear® is similarly priced, but more widely available—especially in clinics that offer flexible payment plans.

At CLEAR Acne Treatment Centers, we offer customized financing, which allows clients to spread out the cost over time. And because AviClear® only requires three sessions instead of four, the total investment is often lower.

WHY CLEAR CHOSE AVICLEAR®

At CLEAR, we’re focused on treatments that are proven, safe, and comfortable for our clients. We chose to specialize in AviClear® because it offers the best combination of long-term effectiveness, FDA-backed research, and a treatment experience that doesn’t require downtime or complicated pain management.

We’ve performed over 1000 AviClear® treatments and have helped clients of all ages, skin types, and acne severities achieve clear, healthy skin—without relying on prescriptions, harsh topicals, or painful procedures.

SO—IS ACCURE® WORTH CONSIDERING?

There’s no question that Accure® is an exciting new technology, and it may have a role in the future of acne treatment. But with fewer devices in circulation, limited long-term data, and a treatment process that involves nerve blocks and extended recovery, it may not be the right starting point for most people.

If you’re looking for a gentle, effective, and FDA-cleared treatment with real-world success, AviClear® is the more established and accessible option—and it’s the one we trust.
